5 things you did not know about a book title

Your book title should be the main thing helping your ideal reader to make the decision if they should buy your book or not. Unfortunately, many authors pay less attention to their book titles. This explains the reason why they find it very difficult to sell their book. They measure the trick behind the success of a book is to get it into the hands of the ideal reader. This is because if the book cannot get into their hand it cannot get into their heart. Transformation only happens when your book gets into the heart of your ideal reader. In designing your book title, there are five key things you should pay very close attention to. The five items discussed below will give you an idea of what you can do to have the success we’re developing a book title that helps you to sell your book with ease.

1.     Your book title is different from your book topic

Did you know that a book title is different from the book topic? I used to think that a book title and a book topic was the same thing until I found out that there were two different components of a book. After I realized this, my book writing journey became easier. A book topic gives you generic information about the subject you should write about and why you should write about that particular subject. For instant marriage is a book topic, divorce is a book topic, business is a book topic. On the other hand, a book title directs your ideal reader what problem there will be solved by reading your book. In other words, a book topic is a reason you want to write a book and a book title is a reason an ideal reader should read a book.

2.  Your book title should be developed after your draft manuscript

If a book topic gives you the reason why you should write a book and a book title gives your readers the reason why they should read your book, when do you think it is appropriate to come out with the title of your book? Is it at the beginning or at the end of your manuscript? The reason many authors write their book manuscript for a very long time and do not finish is because they start with a book title. The reason this is a very big problem is because they spend a lot of time trying to convince someone that is not yet a reader to read the book rather than focusing on laying down strategies that will help them solve the key problem in their book topic. Remember that people buy solutions and not the title. Spending hours on getting virtue readers to buy into a title limit your creativity to developing a perfect solution on your topic. A book title should come at the end of the manuscript as a tool to shine light on the problem your book is solving and help those who need the solution to the problem you’re solving to quickly find your book and make the decision to buy and read it.

3.   Your book title should be developed with only one person in mind

Developing your book title with only one person’s mind gives you the clarity to capture what they are expecting as a result when they read your book. When you focus on one person, it is easier to capture their profile, the problem in the way they see it, and the results they will expect before they solve the problem. When you develop your book title with a group of people in mind as your readers it makes you lose focus on the specific need of the ideal reader. This will cause you not to have the clarity needed to specifically guide you to your ideal reader dream come true. Remember that the only reason someone will want to spend money to buy your book is that they see an answer they are looking for in your book. The purpose of your book title is to point them to that answer they are looking for. Remember that your ideal reader is someone with a problem looking for a specific answer. You will also agree with me that if you can find one person with a problem, you can find many other people with the same problem. Keeping in mind just one person when developing your book title will help you to gain focus on the need of the reader and the reason they want to invest in solving the problem your book is solving.

4.     Your book title can be the reason your book is not selling

Have you ever come across a book title like ‘a guide to succeed in life? What meaning will you make out of such a book title if you were to make a decision to buy that book without looking at the book description or without looking at the table of contents? This is an example of a book title that we cause a lot of potential buyers to walk past your book even if it has great content. People who want to solve a problem are looking for a specific answer. When your book title is too vague, it pushes away potential readers. For you to be able to capture and to create a hungry market for your book, you need to make sure that your book title captures the problem your ideal reader is looking forward to solving. In this way, a potential reader will be able to make the decision in less than 10 seconds of how your book will help them. This can be made possible when you focus on the ideal reader profile and problem as discussed in step three above.

5.     Your book title is the dream come true of your ideal reader

Your book title should be the expected result of your ideal reader. We have already learned that an ideal reader is someone who has a specific problem and is looking for a specific solution. The concept of an ID reader helps you to select a book topic to write about. A book topic guide title of your book. The topic of your book guides you on the specific problem you should solve. In the same line, the title of your book should guide a potential reader to make a decision to buy the book. Making a decision to buy a book or not to buy a book is determined by how well a book title captures the result the buyer is looking for.
